Do you wonder how it can be that some US streets and college campuses are lined with pro-Palestinian protesters who justify October 7 horrors committed against Israelis—even though Hamas took video of raping women, burning families alive, and decapitating babies? Part of the answer is “agents of influence.”
Agents of influence are not like the Chinese national who spied for more than 20 years as the driver for Diane Feinstein, former chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Or like Fang Fang, who was sleeping with Eric Swalwell, member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. These are the sort of clandestine operatives who go undercover to obtain classified information that can be used by the spies’ governments. Less widely known are operatives who do not operate in secret, but who operate in the open as agents of influence.
Agents of influence are assigned to a target nation because they are talented and have the potential to attain positions in government, academia, media, business, or entertainment. There are different kinds of agents of influence: Unwitting Agents (aka useful idiots), Trusted Contacts, and Controlled Agents. They don’t have to rise to the level of a Manchurian candidate to spread disinformation, flat out falsehood, or manipulate people into social and political agendas that will undermine the target country. One strategy of agents of influence is to divide the people of a nation. Another strategy is to sow chaos. These agents do not have to be foreign nationals. In terms of the US, an agent of influence could be someone who has lived overseas, or who was born here, whose allegiance is to Marxism, Socialism, terrorism, Islamism, Naziism, or another nation or group.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, “I do not believe in communism any more than you do, but there is nothing wrong with the communists in this country. Several of the best friends I have got are communists.” There has been later argument that Harry Hopkins—FDR’s friend and eventually his advisor for the New Deal and foreign policy for the Soviet Union—served as a Soviet agent of influence to push US policy toward communism. Roosevelt’s New Deal took socialistic steps to greatly increase the size and power of the Federal government, and establish the Ponzi scheme of Social Security.
Agents of influence are here and they exert strong influence. For example, there were 118 Confucius Institutes in the US on, or near, college campuses. Funded by the People’s Republic of China, these sponsored cultural events, seminars, conferences, and academic exchanges with the intent of producing young American Socialists/Marxists. Congress identified the scheme and legislation removed federal funding from schools who hosted Confucius Institutes. Fourteen still remain. However, the Biden Administration is taking action to pave the way for Confucius Institutes to return to the US.
In terms of the current war in Gaza, Students for Justice in Palestine, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, professors, and mullahs have acted as agents of influence to disinform and indoctrinate thousands of Americans. The propaganda is that Palestinians are historically and currently oppressed victims. Therefore, it is understandable that Hamas committed crimes atrocities against Israelis on October 7—and since then by using Palestinian non-combatants as human shields. US congressional representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have joined the pro-Palestian protests. Are they Manchurian candidates serving as agents of influence? Are rest of their supportive colleagues “useful idiots?”
Nearly every move the Biden Administration makes is destructive to the US. Initially, I speculated about who could be agents of influence in his orbit. However, this is bigger than the influence of a handful of individuals in the Administration. In most cases, Biden’s policies mirror the positions of the Democratic National Committee. His administration just brings the clear incompetence to the party—and to the Party.
